Upgrading of Science block
I have project managed the construction of a new timber framed science building providing 8 laboratories together with the usual support facilities. I have also been responsible for the refurbishment of an existing late Victorian Listed science department containing 15 laboratories, separate teaching rooms, a lecture theatre, technician’s areas and offices.>

Modern science departments are not necessarily like those that we have been used to. You may be expanding the curriculum and find that you have more science teachers than you have laboratories and so extra space has to be found. Perhaps a mix of 24 pupil and 16 pupil rooms might be part of the answer or your science teachers may agree to the provision of some practical labs. mixed in with smaller lecture style ‘teaching only’ rooms. Instead of providing very large rooms with traditional ‘wet’ and ‘dry’ ends it is worth considering some lecture style seating at the white board end with lab benching behind.

In other words there are more ways than one to solve your problems and provide thoroughly modern, well equipped science facilities.
