Works Department
Most schools employ a number of tradesmen in their Works or Grounds Departments. Many use a paper based Works Order Chit system for requesting repairs and sometimes communication between the Works Department and the academic staff is not as good as you would like. I have first hand experience of most of the problems that you might experience and can:
Review the execution of ‘Works Orders’ by the Maintenance Department and report on:
- alternative methods of submitting Works Order Chits (paper based / email / intranet)
- acknowledgment of order and allocation of code for timely completion
- methods of improving lines of communication between the Department and the general school community
- appropriate software packages for reporting and monitoring works order chits
Audit the performance of your Works Department in terms of:
- staffing levels and mix of tradesmen
- performance levels and response times
- the placing of orders with outside contractors
- budget setting and monitoring
- servicing contracts for plant and machinery
