Client Agent
You are planning to build a new teaching block or to refurbish one of your boarding houses and you know that you will be hit with all sorts of demands from teachers and others as soon as the scheme is announced. You also know that it is essential to produce a clear brief for the professionals who will turn your plans into reality, if the project is to get off the ground and be built to a sensible budget.

Do you have the time and knowledge to sift the mass of performance requirements that will come your way from members of staff and turn that into a tight design brief? By appointing an experienced professional at an early stage you can take one step back and leave your Agent to act as a buffer between yourself and your staff.

Have you ever felt that your Architect has given you the building he thought you needed rather than the one that you thought you wanted? As your ‘Client Agent’ I will:
  • take instructions from the Head or the Bursar in terms of basic requirement, budget and timetable and lead the design and construction process to that end
  • consult with interested parties within the school, making them feel involved and valued in the design process
  • establish a working party to consider the many suggestions put forward and lead the group towards finalising a firm Design Brief
  • report to you on a regular basis, suggesting alternative solutions where appropriate
  • recommend suitably experienced professionals for the Design Team, prepare an appropriate scope of works for fee bidding, arrange for Consultant interviews and recommend appointments
  • act as the school’s eyes and ears throughout the design and construction process to ensure adherence to the agreed design brief, timetable and budget
  • attend all progress meetings, representing the school’s best interests to the professionals and the contractor at all times
  • ask 'why’ and ‘how much’ whenever necessary
